Making a statement with lighting….

November 22, 2010

I just had to share this find – the ‘Damned MGX Chandelier by Luc Merx. I discovered it on the Within4Walls site while looking for interior design inspiration (far less dramatic than this) for a client. Some of you may have seen it last year when it was on show at the V&A as part of their ‘Telling Tales’ exhibition, which explored Heaven and Hell and the narrative potential of interior design objects.
It is one of the most amazing peices of lighing I have ever seen and comes with an equally breathtaking price tag of £29,434.00 It is formed from polymide using selective laser sintering resulting in a perfectly formed, seamless work of art representing Ruben’s The Fall of the Damned at the moment of God’s last judgement. It forms part of a Limited Edition of 40 peices only. Unfortunately I won’t be one of the lucky forty and neither, I suspect, will my client!

Writhing, tormented nudes, perfectly formed using selective laser sintering.
