Bargain buy… standing proud!

February 28, 2011

The cold, damp weekend we have just experienced meant that I didn’t get out in the garden to tidy the shrubs, as I had originally intended.  Instead I set to work renovating a couple of old occasional tables, originally from a nest of three, purchased in my local 2nd hand shop for £10 pair.   Although they were scratched and the finish was dull they had beautiful curved legs and the carved detailing was still in tact so for me they were a bargain not to be missed!

A few hours of stripping, sanding & painting really paid off.  While I was working on the first table, the carving at the top of the shapely legs reminded me of lacy underwear and this led on to the idea of painting on dark  ‘stockings’!  The result is a pair of unique tables that have a character of their own,  rescued from a second-hand shop and now standing proud in the entrance hall at home.
